There is one
crucial decision to make in Caribbean Stud Poker and that is
whether to make the call wager at double the ante size, or to
fold and forfeit the ante without exposing additional money
to risk.
In some cases, as when players have a strong hand such as three
of a kind or two pairs, the strategy is fairly obvious-we want
the additional money out there. On the other hand, when our
cards are weak and we don't even have an A and a K, cards that
will at least compete with a qualifying dealer total, the strategy
is also clearcut -we'll want to fold.
The basic strategy we show below will have players playing at
a near optimal level. Playing the absolute perfect optimal strategy
will gain players so little as to be negligible; only a few
hundredths of a percent can be gained with perfect playing strategy.
It is so tiny a gain, especially when we're dealing with a negative
expectation of over five percent to begin with, that the extra
effort needed to learn a semi-complicated playing strategy is
not worth it by any stretch of the imagination. Players need
not even worry about it; the strategy presented here is all
that a player needs to know.
