Caribbean
Stud Poker is played on a table that closely resembles that
of a blackjack table, with the players seated around the oval
side of the table, and the dealer standing along the flat side
facing the players. In front of the dealer is a chip rack holding
the table's bankroll. It is from this rack that the dealer will
pay off winning hands, or deposit losing bets that he has collected.
The table is usually built to accommodate seven players, with
seven seats placed around the oval side, along with corresponding
betting areas on the layout to mark the locations where bets
can be placed. The game can be played with just one player against
the dealer or with the full complement of seven players. In
either case, it doesn't affect the strategy or play of Caribbean
Stud Poker, for players play against the house not against each
other.
The standard 52 card pack is used in Caribbean Stud Poker, with
13 cards of each rank, Ace to King, and four suits, spades,
diamonds, clubs and hearts. One deck is used for play and dealt
out of a shoe, a plastic oblong device used to hold the cards.
The shoe is always found to the dealers left, or from the players
vantage point, on their right side of the table.
Another item on the table might be the Shuffle Master shuffling
machine, an increasingly popular device that automatically shuffles
the cards. In front of each player's position are three betting
spots, one for each of the three bets a player can make. The
first spot, closest to the player and in a circle, is marked
"bet", the second spot, rectangular in shape, is marked
"ante". The final betting area, closest to the dealer,
is actually a drop slot, a "hole" in the table where
a $1 coin or chip gets deposited to participate in the progressive
jackpot. |
